2008 Summer Olympic Games - Beijing, China

Ten minutes.  It’s the tightest deadline I’ve ever had to work under, but at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, timing was everything.  I served as a volunteer flash quotes reporter and was responsible for interviewing athletes after they competed.  The goal was to publish a quote from an athlete within ten minutes of the interview.  That meant standing shoulder to shoulder with dozens of reporters to get the quote and then literally running back to the office to file it.

As a KOMU reporter, I filed several pieces that aired back in the United States including a live phoner giving KOMU viewers a taste of the Opening Ceremonies.  In addition, I contributed to our station’s blog uploading video and images every day giving Mid-Missourians a unique look at the Olympics.

Live Phoner from Beijing, China

The night of the Opening Ceremonies I called back to the station to do a live phoner for the morning show describing the sights and sounds minutes before the Opening Ceremonies.

Opening Ceremonies Standup from the Bird's Nest

KOMU was at the Opening Ceremonies.  I shot this standup on 8/8/08 hours before the Opening Ceremonies.  It was our market's exclusive coverage of the Games.
